Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce has been actively involved in
the Milton Ferry Terminal - Park Road project since at least 2004

Brisbane City Council confirm our Milton CityCat Terminal is on track
for completion DECEMBER 2014

The Milton CityCat Terminal will provide local residents with even greater
access to the city & river suburbs & will provide visitors with direct entry
to one of Brisbane's busiest business, sporting & cultural precincts

The new terminal near Park Road, Milton has been designed to be flood
resilient, accessible for people with vision or mobility impairment & to
work efficiently with the current ferry network, Bicentennial Bikeway
& Coronation Drive

Brisbane City Council will begin building our new Milton CityCat Terminal
in early June 2014

Our Milton CityCat Terminal will be & incl ...
* flood-resilient dual-berthing pontoon
* robust 11 metre high pier with the capacity to deflect heavy objects in flood waters
* gangway that detaches at the shore end in the event of a flood, to swing behind
& avoid being struck by debris
* be accessible for people with a mobility or vision impairment
* provide a more efficient transport network
* cater for the increasing number of passengers over the next 50 years
* bridge, stairs & accessible ramps to carry travellers from Coronation Drive, over the
Bicentennial Bikeway to the terminal, avoiding conflict between pedestrians & cyclists

Construction of the new terminal will involve:
* water-based piling to install the pier
* land-based piling in preparation of the new bridge & ramps
* truck & machinery movements near & on the Bicentennial Bikeway
* extensive river-based works to install the new pontoon & ramps

Cr Peter Matic announces Brisbane City Council support for Milton CityCat
BIWCC has been working with Cr Matic for a number of years in supporting
the approval of a Milton Park Road CityCat.

Local business and community support is sought and urged for a concerted
effort with Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce to lobby for a
MILTON - PARK ROAD CITYCAT TERMINAL.
After the floods of January 2011 .. our Milton and surrounds need a boost to
our area's cafe and shopping precincts and condensed business office area
for our shoppers and the staff in the office blocks .. and the new residential
- retail complexes being planned.

Please contact BIWCC to show your support.

2010 - 2011  Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce works with
Cr Peter Matic to lobby Brisbane City Council for our CityCat needs

The MILTON Ferry Terminal Strategy in 2004

Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce supported and urged the
submission of a proposal naming Park Road, Milton as a suggested site for a terminal during the Council's planning stage of the Brisbane River Ferry Service Growth Strategy 2004-2016. Park Road was one of the 6 locations identified for future terminals in the December 2004 Report

Through discussions with Council the timeline for building of additional terminals
was then anticipated to not occur before 2010 due to funding constraints

BIWCC chamber believed that the redevelopment of areas such as New Farm
and West End had a significant affect on our inner west area and therefore the need for a terminal at MILTON was a priority to boost Milton and surrounds
and we had considered it too pressing to wait for the council to have the
available funding.  Therefore our next step was then to work with businesses
and developers in the area to provide a contribution sufficient to allow Council
to build the terminal within the next 18 months (2006)

In order to raise the $3 million dollars needed to secure the construction of a CityCat terminal at Park Road BIWCC Chamber had adopted a multi-pronged approach.  We approached developers, interested parties and businesses in
the immediate vicinity of the terminal to provide support in the form of capital 'donations'.

During the earlier discussions with Brisbane City Council  BIWCC and local businesses believed that a levy would be charged to the new proposed developments for Milton to allow extra floors/levels if these high rises paid
into a fund for a Milton CityCat Terminal

Local business & community support was urged
