Legacy Way is Brisbane City Council's latest infrastructure project to reduce
congestion in our city. The 4.6Km road tunnel will connect Toowong and
Kelvin Grove.
It is an alternative route to local roads for traffic leaving the Western Freeway
and travelling to and from the Inner City Bypass (ICB).
When it opens, Legacy Way will reduce, by up to 44%, the peak hour travel time
of journeys from the Centenary Bridge to the ICB.
Gregg Buyers, Project Director Legacy Way, presented on our Inner West
tunnel project 21 Sept 2011. Excellent presentation .. so informative.
All were amazed at the incredible technology + planning for our IW tunnel.
Trancity's design for the project incls ...
* 2 parallel tunnels, one east-bound and one west-bound
each tunnel containing two lanes for traffic
* Cross passages between the tunnels every 120m
* A longitudinal ventilation system to manage in-tunnel air quality
* Fire protection and safety management systems
* A free-flow electronic tolling system
