RSA Liquor Professionals and Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce
are pleased to offer a Youth Alcohol Awareness Program to high school
students in Milton, Paddington, Rosalie, Bardon, Red Hill, Caxton Street, Auchenflower, Herston, Kelvin Grove and Normanby areas.  We aim to deliver an informative and interactive full day training program with a youth focus to raise awareness of alcohol related harm in the community.

A typical program will incl the following elements within normal school hours:

* Guest speakers which may include officers from the Office of Liquor & Gaming
Regulation (OLGR), Queensland Police Service, Local Licensees and community
   organisations.

* A special guest talk by Mr Paul Stanley of the Matthew Stanley Foundation
In 2006 Matthew Stanley aged 15 lost his life after being bashed outside a
teenagers' party in September 2006. The Matthew Stanley Foundation seeks to
promote non violence and mutual respect among young people and responsible
behaviour in the adult community. The Foundation partners with individuals,
community groups, business and elected representatives to promote youth
safety initiatives, incl Party Safe and the One Punch Can Kill Campaign.

* Delivery and assessment of the Nationally Accredited and Queensland OLGR
   approved
Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course SITHFAB009A

with a certificate issued to each participating student.

* Audio/Visual presentations of Schoolies Week and national current affairs
programs demonstrating current youth alcohol issues.

* Hands on student participation exercises involving use of "Beer Goggles" that
simulate blood alcohol levels from 0.06 to 0.25+ and recognition of standard
   drink measures.

The course not only meets the mandatory requirements of the RSA course, but
includes information on acceptable behaviour, risky alcohol consumption practices,
health, personal and financial impacts, alcohol related violence and liquor licensing
laws. The aim is to promote thought and discussion amongst youth, where if even
one person changes their behaviour and makes a safer decision when affected by
alcohol then it is all worthwhile. By teaching the responsible service of alcohol we
trust responsible consumption practices can be promoted to youth participants.

The course can be delivered to a maximum 25 students per session with each
student being issued an OLGR Approved RSA Certificate .. valid for 3 years.
This certificate is a minimum requirement for employment involving the sale and
supply of liquor in Queensland and can benefit students with direct employment
opportunities within the hospitality industry.

The course is facilitated by Russell Steele, a former Principal Liquor Compliance
Officer with the Liquor Licensing Division and OLGR. Russell has in-depth knowledge
of the Queensland Liquor Act and is an experienced trainer who for the last five
years has instructed on the Queensland Police Service Liquor Investigators Course.
